I have started a Help Desk Blog on the district's blog server, I guess that makes it an "Official" Help Desk Blog. I am going to treat it that way at least. In other words, I do not think it is a place for my own personal opinions. Those you will be able to find here. In a week or so, after I move over a couple posts, I am going to delete the blogger site that was My Unorthodox Help Desk Blog.

Moving the Copy Center
Official word came down today that the Copy Center is moving from ESC to Clover Basin. I predict this is the beginning of the end for the Copy Center. The majority of the the Copy Center clients are the departments at ESC, LSC and SSC. FedEx Kinkos is just to readily available for them to drive all the way over here.

Unread Email Folder
Here is a question that I got from "Linda" a quirky user from downtown:
Hi Dan,
I see in my unread mail folder, I have 94 unread messages, many of them were return receipts that I kept for a reason. If I delete everything in that folder, will that delete them in the folders I saved them to in my saved e-mails folder?
Dear Linda,
No it will not, the Unread Mail Folder is not truly a folder but a query of unread email in your Inbox. As long as you have saved them somewhere other than your Inbox you should be fine. Note: it can also not be in a folder which is in the Inbox.
Thanks,
Dan Magyar, Help Desk Tech

SVVSD Students and Google Apps
Next year the the district will be entering new territory. Skyline High School has gotten permission to use Goggle Apps with about 100 of their students. They are considering assigning log ins and passwords to match the ones we use for district domain. My understanding is that this will be completely administrated by the school without support from ITS. Here is the logo I designed for their implementation. Click on the logo to see some products I put together.

Chocolate
On Monday we implemented an idea I had at the beginning of the year. On the Citrix Reminder window, that everyone clicks every morning, we added the text: "Win Chocolate: Be the first person from your building to email something related to chocolate to helpdesk@stvrain.k12.co.us and WIN chocolate."
The purposes of this chocolate event were many. As a number of people guessed we wanted to see if the “Little Grey” Citrix Reminder window was being noticed. We also wanted to advertise the existence of the help desk email account as a way to contact DTS. We wanted to have a little fun at the end of the year. This was also a test to see what the response would be like. So far we have been blown away by the response and creativity.
I posted the winning email on an intranet blog: http://blogs.stvrain.k12.co.us/chocolate/ and we sent every winner a candy bar. (Purchased with personal funds.)
Hopefully in the fall we can have another contest. I am picturing possible a scavenger hunt through the technology resources the district provides.

New Links
I have added a couple links above; one to the Citrix Gateway the other to the Goto Assist site. Goto Assist is a product we can use to help Windows users that are not on thin clients, or even at home.
